Q. Does acupuncture hurt?
A. Many patients report that their experiences range from feeling almost nothing at all to a brief ache, or sensations of energetic activity near the needle. Many people who have been fearful of acupuncture also report being amazed and surprised by the pleasant experience of complete relaxation. The needles, being the width of a human hair, are the finest needles and only shallowly inserted into the body.

Does acupuncture hurt?

Many patients report that their experiences range from feeling almost nothing at all to a brief ache or sensations of energetic activity near the needle. Many people who have been fearful of acupuncture also report being amazed and surprised by the pleasant experience of complete relaxation. The needles, being the width of a human hair are the finest needles and are only shallowly inserted into the body.

Are the needles safe?

Absolutely. Sterile disposable needles of the highest quality are immediately disposed of after one time use.

Is acupuncture covered by insurance?

Many insurance companies cover acupuncture. Please consult your company to determine the terms of their coverage; some determine the number of treatments that they will cover, while other carriers will put a cap on the total annual cost. Your health savings account may also cover treatment; please consult your HR representative or your insurer to determine your benefits.

How will I benefit from acupuncture?

Many people begin acupuncture treatment to find relief from a wide variety of physical conditions. Acupuncture has proven to be effective with a wide range of complaints including anxiety, back pain, infertility, stress, and depression. Acupuncture and Chinese herbs also prove to be effective in treating chronic illnesses and health concerns that seem to have no clear origin or cause. Patients who are committed to their wellness and receive ongoing treatment rarely get sick and recover more quickly. Many companies and corporations support treatment, as it lowers their health care costs and decreases extraordinary interventions.

Do I have to be ill to benefit from acupuncture?

No. Many people come to maintain their wellness and prevent illness, especially when they know that they are going to need support.

How often do I need to come to benefit from treatment?

When a patient begins treatment, depending on the symptoms and the severity of symptoms, I generally recommend that they come for about 6-8 visits in all, one per week. Together we watch and look for signs of positive change. As patients respond to treatment and implement lifestyle changes, we adapt treatment to each individual’s needs. A patient may then require treatment once a month or seasonally with their improved health and resolution of symptoms. Many patients support their unique constitution with Chinese herbals between treatments to great benefit.

Tell me about Chinese herbs.

The herbs are of the highest quality; they are effective, gentle, and safe. The herbs are all produced under transparent, good manufacturing procedures (GMP). I only recommend those brands that my family, my children, and my grandchild use.

How do I benefit the most from acupuncture and holistic healthcare?

Eat something before coming for treatment. Avoid caffeine during the day of treatment. Do not engage in intense physical activity on the days of treatment. Allow time for yourself so that you really enjoy your time and experience.
